Plinth design of the monument

On two of the four faces of the plinth of the Antarctic Monument are recorded the names of those that died with the research base where they were working and the month and year of their death.

There is the inscription on a third face "To those who lost their lives in pursuit of science to benefit us all."

The fourth face describes the links between the Northern part of the Monument at the Scott Polar Research Institute, Cambridge and the Southern Part on the waterfront of Stanley "United through Distance and Time"

The Trust worked with Pangolin to develope a new method of creating accurate typography and imaging on the bronze. Computer files were created for the design and used by a 3D printer to create a 3D positive model. This was used as the starting point for conventional lost wax process.
