Empire Antarctica

Gavin Francis, base doctor at Halley in 2003, has had his book Empire Antarctica named “Scottish Book of the Year” 2013. The full title of the book is Empire Antarctca, Ice, Silence and Emperor Penguins. He writes about a number of the dangers and the deaths of Antarctica. "These dangers are as real now as they were twenty or fifty or a hundred years ago. I stepped with more caution when I remembered Kirsty, and woke with more gratitude."
